The thought behind it was the farmers would have more productive daylight time (!) at the _end_ of the farming day, rather than at the beginning (when many crop-only farmers are still sleeping, the lazy bastards <G). Instead of having dusk occur at 7.21 pm (normal time), DST puts dusk at 8.21 pm. I can appreciate the farmers’ plight — I certainly would rather plod along in the field in a Deere at 8 pm than 6 am, but that’s just me. I still think the whole situation lacks the relevancy in today’s society.
