Question:
According to a Florida Judge, an AA (Alcohol Anonymous) member who told his fellow drunks, during an AA meeting, the he stabbed to death two people is equivalent to a confession to a Priest and thus any testimony by the AA members is inadmissible in Court since AA is a religion. So even getting shit faced is a religion. And if that can be a religion, sure why not, Wicca can be a religion.
MM again RBB, While I realize you are probably just messing around I can’t help but comment. AA would never claim to be a religion, nor would they allow other organizations to call them one. The name says it all Alcoholics Anonymous. A place where an addict is susposed to be able to leave feeling safe that no one will tell the stories they have told, because they are suposed to respect the guidelines set up by the group. Obviously the main guidline is whatever happens in that group doesn’t leave that group. If a member from AA were to tell something about a meeting in public it would greatly harm the movement and I don’t think we want that, I know I don’t. The group performs a very valuable function for our society. When an addict needs help they are there, and when they want the help they often recover and live good lives, thus becoming positive and productive members of our society. So hell, even if they decided one day to get nutty and start calling themselves a religion what harm is it really???? Seems to me AA and it’s sister programs have done alot more than some actual religions out there for suffering people. Besides, if your story is correct and true, then what is the big deal if the members share what they heard or not? They have already discovered the guy did it so why should the members need to? I firmly believe that they should not ever share the info, for the simple fact of the destruction it could cause, members could drop out, and some may never go to begin with. I don’t think it is worth it, that person will suffer the rule of three no matter what the court system decides. You have a URL for that ruling? I know of three reasons for legal protection of confessions, religious, medical and legal (to your own attorney). I do know that AA has a bylaw that prohibits its members from divulging anything said during a meeting. Perhaps this held up in court. I can’t find anything on it.
I can’t imagine that would really stand up in court. But, stranger things have happened. Nikaia – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – T9W And the American Bar Association is reviewing their ethics. They want to do away with some of the client confidentiality rules. But, only in the instance of, say, I tell my lawyer I’m going to go kill someone and they know I’m capable. Nikaia That’s rediculas. Plain and simple. A lot of strange things do happen and judges have erred in the past. In the U.S. the Supreme Court has reversed itself a few times as to what the law is. —

No it ain’t, check out the news. Well, sure… anything can be a religion, it’s just not that many people want to worship my spoon collection.
Why not, in Old England they hunted down and worshiped a Cup (Holy Grail).
