Question:
I am curious to know how many people would choose to have a handfasting rather than a traditional marriage ceremony. Where would you go to find an officiant that would do the ceremony?
what’s a handfasting? (i’m only 15
marriage hasn’t really crossed my mind yet) AmyLurker *goes back to lurker mode*

Part of the process of becoming a functioning third-degree in my tradition is becoming legally recognized as a minister. At least one or both in each working couple is legally able to perform a legal handfasting. That’s how we get around that…I haven’t done one yet, but that’s all a matter of time. Where would you look for an officiant that would perform the ceremony? If you are referring to "handfasting" as a formal, legal ceremony, I’d have a handfasting. If I do ever get married again, this is the ceremony that will recognize the binding both according to our laws and the gods <G. Be sure to check out the state and COUNTY you are considering filing the legal documents in. Legal recognition of a marriage varies from state to state, and some counties have prohibitions. Then you can decide whose services to obtain for the legal aspects. There is lots of info online, but you’ll probably have to make a few calls also. Most states now recognize Wicca as a religion too. By the way, in New York state, it takes three witnesses to sign the marrriage certificate for a legal marriage. *B*B CRD

Many pagans get officially married in a registry office or a civil ceremony and have a handfasting afterwards, Having attended quite a few handfasting, I would honestly say its the most spiritual, loving and fun event ever. Their are always those who can and do officiate. I have even heard Christians who were invited to such handfastings comment on its spirituality and the fact it involves everyone who is their, I try my best to avoid traditional weddings, they bore the life out of me, But invite me to a handfasting, and I will be their with my party frock on

If you satisfy the state and federal government by having a judge, magistrate, or justice of the peace marry you in the legal sense. Then anyone of a true Pagan faith could Handfast/Bind/Marry you spiritually. Don’t the Royals Do such….But a legal then a Christian ceremony in their case. Merry Meet: My mate Lady Llydia and I did. We were lucky enough to find a Priestess who was also legally allowed to perform a marriage. Blessed be, Lady Dionne

I would like to have a handfasting instead of a traditional wedding (I even want it on a full moon). I will use a Justice of the Peace, or you can even have a friend get their license just for you. I would never get married in a church because it would be very hypocritical – I don’t go to church! Although, I’m single right now and not getting married anytime soon. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I am curious to know how many people would choose to have a handfasting rather than a traditional marriage ceremony.
